Training of the Trainers: Mentorship Development Training

NEFEJ, with support from the Free Press Unlimited (FPU) of the Netherlands, organized a three day mentorship development program from March 27 to 29 capacitate senior journalists from NEFEJ to make them able to mentor the journalists from various parts of the country to work on feature stories on various issues of environment conservation and sustainable development.

After this training of the trainers, the mentors will work together with their fellow journalists to develop and write and produce feature, in-depth and investigative stories.

The training was organized to make the mentors understand the role of a mentor and also understand the difference between a mentor and an editor. It also helped mentors acquire skills required to become a mentor.

A total of 16 participants from different media outlets – Kantipur Television, Himal Media, Naya Patrika, Panos South Asia, Nepal Samacharpatra and International Institute for Journalism (IIJ), attended this training program, along with some NEFEJ officials.

At the end of the training of the trainers, four of them were selected to work as mentors under the FPU-supported program, according to Durga Karki, coordinator of the FPU program at NEFEJ.
