Media Discourse

Under the SP Program, NEFEJ also organized five media discourses in four provinces – Province no. 2, 3, 5, Karnali and Sudurpaschim. All these programs were useful to draw the attention of the provincial governments to formulate environment-friendly policies and programs.

The Chief Ministers of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces addressed the discourse held in those provinces while the provincial ministers took part in the discourse held in Provinces 2 and 5.

During the program in Dhangadi, Chief Minister Trilochan Bhatta of Sudurpaschim Province promised to control haphazard road construction using dozers in the hilly regions of the province that has badly affected the local environment.

At another program held in Surkhet, Chief Minister of Karnali Province Mahendra Bahadur Shahi said that his government is looking at ways of adapting to the changing climate and taking measures to mitigate its impact.

Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Province no. 2 Gyanendra Kumar Yadav, while addressing a discourse held in Janakpur, stressed on the conservation of environment while carrying out different development projects. He pointed out that our lives could be at risk if we do not prioritize the conservation of environment.

Lumbini
Similarly, Minister for Industry, Environment and Forest Lila Giri of Province no. 5, speaking at the discource in Lumbini, said that the heritage site of Lumbini should be developed as a center for eco-tourism because of its diversity in birds, wild animals and cultural significance. He added that we should not only focus on the industrial pollution but should also discuss about vehicular emissions and plastic pollution.
