Radio Sagarmatha enters its 25th year of Broadcasting

Radio Sagarmatha, the first independent community radio in entire South Asia, has entered into its 25th year of broadcasting today. It has not only established itself as an independent community radio station, but it is also considered to be the first independent broadcasting service in South Asia.

Commencing its trial broadcasting in 2052 BS, Radio Sagarmatha started its official and regular broadcasting through 102.4 MHz since 9 June 2054 BS. Radio Sagarmatha which is operated by Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) produces and broadcasts informative and entertainment programs along with current affairs and news.

Radio Sagarmatha has successfully completed its 24 years of broadcasting and reached out to the general public and stakeholders on current issues over the years. However, formal or special programs were not held on the occasion of its 25th anniversary in the light of the existing COVID-19 pandemic.

On the occasion of its anniversary, President Kosmos Biswokarma gave his good wishes and expressed his gratitude towards all the partner organizations, well-wishers, and advertisement agencies who supported the radio during its journey. Radio Sagarmatha 102.4 MHz broadcast only for 2 hours in its earlier days with further increasing its broadcasting period to 18 hours daily and currently broadcasting for 16 hours daily. Nevertheless, the online version of Radio Sagarmatha can be listened for 24 hours daily.

Radio Sagarmatha has been continuosly advocating for the people’s right to information, freedom of expression, social justice, democratic practices and culture, social open debates, good governance and human right issues through its broadcasts.
