September 27: NEFEJ, in partnership with Practical Action, provided fellowships to eight journalists to raise the issue of energy access among the poor people. Under this fellowship, four male journalists and four female journalists from four provinces of Nepal were involved in producing news stories based on the theme “Poor People’s Energy Outlook (PPEO)”. The fellowships were provided under the “Organizing media fellowship to enable the issue of energy access challenges and innovations in Nepal” Practical Action project.

The news stories were prepared using a diverse method of storytelling; blogs, photo story, radio episode and in-depth stories. First of all, a virtual knowledge workshop was organized where Pooja Sharma, Energy Thematic Lead, Practical Action and Archana Gurung, Profiling Lead, Practical Action gave their expert knowledge on the PPEO theme. Following this workshop, the journalists prepared their story ideas based on the knowledge workshop. Finally the story angles were finalized during the second Virtual Knowledge Workshop with the help of Senior Environment Journalist Rajesh Ghimre, Practical Action Team and NEFEJ team.

The fellowship project has been recently completed with one blog, one photo story, one radio story and five in-depth reporting on the theme.
