Amidst an event organized on June 13, 2017, George Varughese, the Country Representative of The Asia Foundation, handed over equipment like computers, printers, microphones and headphones to Radio Sagarmatha.
During the program, Laxman Upreti, Executive Director at NEFEJ and Station Manager of Radio Sagarmatha, expressed his gratitude to the foundation for their support in helping to continue the mission of the station. He also informed about TAF's contribution in initiating the construction of an earthquake- resistant building for Radio Sagarmatha which had not only supported the station but also emerged as a sustainable model for other stations across the country and abroad. With TAF's contribution, Radio Sagarmatha also received support from Jouw FM, The Netherlands and Free Press Unlimited, The Netherlands.
Meanwhile, George Varughese, shared his commitment and said that it gave him much pride to be supporting the station that had stirred the community radio movement that gave birth to many community radio stations in Nepal. He also wished more success to the team for the upcoming days.
The past president of NEFEJ as well as the Radio Sagarmatha Board Member, Rajendra Dahal, congratulated both the teams and discussed on the possible collaboration of the two organizations. Along with Rajendra Dahal, Kunda Dixit, Radio Sagarmatha Board Member, Om Khadka & Dhurba Basnet, NEFEJ Past Presidents as well staff from Radio Sagarmatha and NEFEJ along with a team from Asia Foundation had participated in this program. Following the program, the team from TAF also visited the different departments and working station of Radio Sagarmatha.
