Reporters of NayaPusta, a mainstream news program for kids, run by Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ), received the prestigious in the television category. The award, a first-of-its-kind, was jointly organized by Federation of Nepalese Journalists and Central for Child Welfare Board Nepal.
NayaPusta Reporters- namely Salina Upreti, Sanskriti Chalise and Nepalgunj correspondent, Krishna Adhikari, were awarded for their stories in NayaPusta. The awardees went through a series of selection process that was conducted by a panel of five people. They were selected on the basis of their exceptional work in the year 2073 (Mid July 2015 to Mid July 2016).
Since 2012, NEFEJ, with support from Free Press Unlimited (FPU), The Netherlands, started News for Kids program with the aim of mainstreaming the issue of child and teenagers. Initially, the program developed one 15-min package every week, however considering its popularity as well as the need to escalate its impact, the frequency of the show was increased. It is now being aired every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from NTV Plus and Avenues Television at 8 pm and 7:40 pm respectively. Apart from that, the show is also featured weekly on 15 locally based TV Channels outside the valley and broadcasted through more than 60 FM radios across the country. The show also has its own YouTube channel.
Along with the NayaPusta team, six other journalists working in different radio and print media were also awarded amidst a special program organized in the premises of Federation of Nepalese Journalists, FNJ. Mahendra Bista, President at FNJ, along with Babina Shrestha, President at Central for Child Welfare Board and Khagraj Baral, Secretary at Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, handed over the award to the respective winners.
